I love the mountains...especially when its 104 in Charleston and you get to escape to the mountains and have to pull out your long sleeved shirts and maybe even a sweat shirt. We had the opportunity to take a little mountain vacation so we jumped on it!
Thanks to Will, we got to stay at an adorable little cabin tucked away in Cold Springs Ranch in Western NC. This was our view from the back porch, not too shabby.
We had some amazing food while we were there. Considering the closest grocery store was approximately 1.5 hours away, we did pretty well. Just as a sampling we had lasagna, chicken salad, cedar plank salmon, sirloin steaks, twice baked potatoes, etc.
Probably the best part of the whole weekend was "the ranger." We rode this thing all over the mountain and managed on more than one occasion to squeeze all six of us on it.
This place was just beautiful - there were so many trails, waterfalls, wild life, and vegetation all around us. We saw rabbits, chipmunks, turkeys, elks. Yes, I said elks. There is a female elk that lives near/on the 250 acre ranch and we saw her twice...pretty amazing. The best part was that she was pregnant and due to have another little elk any day :)
Gorgeous. You see our two little fisherman?
We did a good bit of fishing while we were there. Total fish count was:
Matt: 1 trout, 2 bass, 1 brim
Alyssa: 1 trout
Jordan: 1 brim
Will: 0
Sorry Will, had to rub it in again :)
Pam and Mr. Jeff about to take a ranger ride
During the day we took several hikes around the mountain...so many fun trails!
Picnic lunch out on the meadow
You can barely see the sun setting, but it was still there a little bit
To top off a really fun trip we found some Cogdill history of the way home! One of the bridges in NC was named after Anthony Cogdill...no one had any idea who he is, but I bet he's related to us!
