Weekend Events

Every once in a while I think to myself...who really cares about our meaningless weekends?!? But then I remember that this blog is for Matt and I to have a record or journal of our lives.  It is so fun to look through the archives now and see what we were doing this time last year.  I would have loved to have a journal about my parents' time before they had all of us.  Sure they have a few pictures here and there, but just a few. Anyways, I will press on and talk about our weekend so far.  This has been a very laid back weekend.  Matt's dad came down Friday night and then went and played golf with Matt.  The girls went shopping then we all grilled out at our house.  Costco had their ribs on special so we got some and they were de-li-cious!  After that we stayed up late playing cards and hanging out.

On Saturday morning we decided to get some brunch at Hominey Grill.

We knew it would be a little bit of wait given that it is Memorial Day weekend and the beginning of Spoletto, but an hour later we finally got a table!

After our big breakfast we all headed to the pool to enjoy a pretty day!

If you can't tell, that is Matt lying down by the side of the pool and Mr. Jeff walking around in the pool. It was such a warm day so the water was very refreshing!

Matt and I by the pool- whenever I want Matt to take a picture with me he occasionally will make the cheesiest look just to spite me.  I don't think he realizes that I don't really care and I am going to use it anyways..hah!

Happy Memorial Day! Thank you to all of our veterans and our current soldiers who are fighting for our freedom right now.  I know that is something I could never do, so I am very thankful for those who give up their lives to fight for us.  Thank you!

Veggies and Oprah

Remember that little garden I planted a few months ago?  Well I have been diligently watering and caring for it daily over the past couple months.  I have seen all kinds of flowers, buds, and vegetables!
This was my first official vegetable that I grew!  It is a banana pepper and it was delicious :)

Posing with my banana pepper

I wanted to do a before and after of the garden...I think it grew a little bit

Before:

 Just a few months later:

I picked this Zucchini yesterday and we are going to have it for dinner tomorrow night, isn't that fun? I feel like such a farmer!  I am harvesting the crop and feeding my family, ok so maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself, ha!
 Okra starting to grow
One little yellow squash trying to grow

On a completely different note, did any of you watch Oprah's farewell show?  I will be honest, I have watched Oprah on and off over the past couple of years.  Its been a long time since I have seen it, but I did DVR the last show because it was sure to be a momentous event. I have mixed emotions about Oprah...I just don't really know what to think.  On one hand she has dedicated her life to service and helping others- whether it is educational scholarships, victims of abuse, or giving away cars to people who need it. On the other hand, she undoubtedly has some questionable worldviews.   As I was watching the final show I was shocked to see how many reference she made to God and Jesus.  She went as far to clarify which god she was referring to and she specifically said the one and only, omnipresent G-O-D.  Her closing comment was "to God be the glory." I was a little bit impressed at her comments...but a little hesitant to believe all of it.  Did anyone else watch, what did you think?

Becca and Craig Tie the Knot

This past weekend we traveled to Edisto to see Becca and Craig finally tie the knot!
This is the church where they had their ceremony.  She had the gospel choir from that church sing all the music in the ceremony...it was so neat and so lowcountry!
Their reception was at Brookland Plantation also on Edisto. Such a beautiful place!

I snuck a few pictures of them while they were in their photographer was taking some of the two of them. I think she is going to have some beautiful pictures :)

Love these girls
Their cake was a coconut cake from Village Bakery...yummy! I usually do not like the cake at weddings, but this was delicious!

SOOO happy for Becca and Craig - Matt and I are blessed with their friendship.  I absolutely love a wedding where you know the couple personally and know they are seeking to glorify the Lord first in their marriage.  Welcome to the married club, Becca and Craig! We love you!

Another PC Alumni

A few weeks ago my little brother graduated from PC.   I couldn't be prouder that he followed in Matt and I's footsteps to PC and it was a very special day to see him join us as alumni.

PC holds graduation outside on the beautiful plaza.  When Matt and I graduated it POURED all day and we had ours in the gym...we may be just a little bitter when we go to every other graduation since then that is gorgeous. haha!

Ryan shaking President Griffith's hand and getting his diploma
We sat in the perfect seat to see Ryan during graduation

 Proud parents!

Ryan's roommate and one of his best friends, Colin
Ryan's first roommate at PC, Plyer.  He is also headed to MUSC next year for med school!
Fun running into old friends!
Matt ran into Dr. Thompson, an amazing English professor at PC.
 Three PC alumni!

After graduation some of the seniors organizing a graduation party.  Catie's sister, Carson, graduated this year, too and we got to hang out at the graduation party.

 Cheers to the new graduates!!!

They had the "maintenance band" play at their party. It is actually a band of PC maintenance men that have and band and they are AMAZING!
I never got a picture of Ryan and Liz in their cap and gowns, but we went over to her house after the party and celebrated with her as well.

Congratulations Ryan! I am extremely proud of you!
